Santa Cruz Liquor Licenses are managed by the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control. It is important to know that acquiring a Santa Cruz Liquor License can take as long as 4 months. The permit that the ABC will issue you will depend on the type of business that you are running. Some licenses require not less than half of your income to generate from food sales. Others will only allow you to sell liquor that can only be consumed off the premises of your business.

Going through this long, arduous process can mean cashing out money, time, and effort. If you want to avoid any more setbacks, you have to be knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the open market and acquire the right documents to be submitted to the California Department of Alcoholic and Beverage Control (ABC).

At Liquor License Agents, each and every single one of our professionals are highly knowledgeable about brokering, reviewing of your applications, and the facilitating of the process with the ABC. We are also highly experienced at finding qualified buyers and sellers of liquor licenses. As an NALCP-certified agency, we have over 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry and are 30% cheaper than our other competitors in our field. Type 20 & 21 Liquor
License

Both Type 20 and Type 21 licenses are designated for the sale of alcohol for off-premises consumption. Minors are allowed on the premises of businesses that are issued this type of license. The Type 20 license is issued for the sale of packaged beer and wine, while the Type 21 is designated for the sale of general packaged alcohol, including spirits and liquor.

Type 41 & 47 Liquor
License

Probably some of the most common types of liquor licenses, the Type 41 and Type 47 licenses are specifically designated for businesses that primarily serve food. The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control states that, in order to be issued a Type 41 or Type 47 license, your facility must be a “bona fide eating place.” 51% of the total sales should come from food.

Type 48 Liquor
License

Type 48 licenses differ from Type 41 and Type 47 licenses as they are used in establishments that are not primarily eateries. Type 48 Licenses are typically issued for bars and nightclubs. The Type 48 license permits the holder to serve liquor until 2:00 AM. Unique to this license, the Type 48 allows closed containers of beer or wine to be sold for “off-premises” consumption.

Santa Cruz County Liquor License Facts

Right after submitting your Santa Cruz Liquor License application, a courtesy notice will be served at the location of your business to notify the local population of your intention to sell liquor. If there are no proven qualms with your application, the ABC will then examine all the information listed regarding your business.

The ABC, however, may not issue you a direct Santa Cruz Liquor License in some cases. This happens when your county has exceeded its limit of issued licenses. You can, however, opt for obtaining a license through the open market. This option is a more expensive one, but it is your only option given the circumstances. Depending on the local liquor policy, you may also need to get a separate license if you intend to serve liquor on your premises. Being aware of these policies before you apply can definitely save you valuable time and money.

Regardless of whether you are looking to be issued a license by the ABC or going for the open market, rest assured that our professional team at Liquor License Agents can assist you through whatever process you choose.
