From start to finish, idea to opening, we're the best in the industry to help you make it all happen.
If you are buying or selling a San Diego liquor license you, it is a good idea to take the time to research and find the best way to go about it. The process of buying or selling a liquor license often costly, complicated and time-consuming. To ensure that the sale or purchase of a San Diego liquor license goes smoothly, it is important to know the ins and outs of how the open market works, and how to navigate the requirements of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). Without this knowledge, you risk losing valuable time and money – as a buyer or a seller.
As a business owner, you have enough to worry about without having to spend valuable time researching the legalities of liquor licensing. At Liquor License Agents, we pride ourselves on our skills in finding qualified buyers and sellers for liquor licenses, as well as consulting, brokering and facilitating liquor license applications with the ABC. Our NALCP-certified agency has over 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry and is up to 30% cheaper than our competition. Whether you are in the market to buy a liquor license, or you are thinking of selling one that you already own, we guarantee that our services will make the process simple and stress-free.
As in most counties throughout California, San Diego liquor licenses are managed by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Depending on the type of business that you are running, there are many different kinds of permits, each with a different specialty and application. So, when buying a San Diego liquor license, it is important to take into consideration the different types of permits available as they relate to your specific business. For example, some licenses require no less than half of your income to originate from food sales. Other licenses are designated for only selling closed containers to be consumed off the premises.

Both Type 20 and Type 21 licenses are designated for the sale of alcohol for off-premises consumption. Minors are allowed on the premises of businesses that are issued this type of license. The Type 20 license is issued for the sale of packaged beer and wine, while the Type 21 is designated for the sale of general packaged alcohol, including spirits and liquor.
Probably some of the most common types of liquor licenses, the Type 41 and Type 47 licenses are specifically designated for businesses that primarily serve food. The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control states that, in order to be issued a Type 41 or Type 47 license, your facility must be a “bona fide eating place.” 51% of the total sales should come from food.
Type 48 licenses differ from Type 41 and Type 47 licenses as they are used in establishments that are not primarily eateries. Type 48 Licenses are typically issued for bars and nightclubs. The Type 48 license permits the holder to serve liquor until 2:00 AM. Unique to this license, the Type 48 allows closed containers of beer or wine to be sold for “off-premises” consumption.
As sated previously, the process of obtaining a license can be a long one. When obtaining a San Diego liquor license directly from the ABC, for example, the process can take up to 4 months. After applying, a notice will be served in the area that you intend to open your business to inform the local population that you anticipate serving alcohol. They will have 30 days to submit a complaint about your intention of serving alcohol. On the off chance that there are no noteworthy complaints to your application by the general population, then the ABC will start an examination of the people listed on your application, the area of your business, and the business in general.
However in some cases, your San Diego liquor license may not come from the ABC at all. Some counties in California are oversaturated with licenses, and San Diego is no exception to this. As a matter of fact, most counties in Southern California cost much more than other counties because of the level of competition. Therefore, you may have to purchase your license on the open market. This option is a more expensive route to follow, however, it may be your only choice, given the market you intend to operate in. It is also important to remember that your city may require a separate application to serve alcohol, so make certain to check with the local government body or seek advice from a consultant.
Contact us today and we will help you find a license or qualified buyer so that you can focus on other aspects of your business. Regardless of whether you intend to sell your license, obtain your San Diego liquor license from the ABC or buy one from the open market, we at Liquor License Agents can help you through the entire process.

I was contacted by Mr. Robert De La Torre regarding one of our Type 20 licenses for a site in which we obtained a Type 21 from the ABC Priority drawings in Huntington Beach. He stated he had a buyer for our license and our license was about to expire because we had not renewed it that year because we had a type 21 now and he instructed me to renew it and we were late in renewing it.Mr. Robert was able to contact the ABC on our behalf to Re-instate the license and then because of COVID the process was delayed a bit but the sale of our license was finally completed recently and we got a check in our office and the deal as promised was completed. Thank you I recommend working with Mr Robert De La Torre at Liquor License Agents.

Krista and her team at LLA did a great job leading our efforts to obtain a type 20 license. As a business owner the last thing I needed to add to my plate was dealing with the ABC. Krista and LLA took care of everything ABC related in a professional, timely manner, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome of their hard work. Would definitely recommend their services to any business owner looking to get an ABC license.
I had the pleasure of working with Rob on selling a liquor license for the company I work for. Rob kept us posted every step of the way, and found a reputable buyer in no time. He sent us the necessary documents and opened, and recently closed escrow, flawlessly. He's incredibly organized, and responsive when questions came up. Something to note, this type of work is not something I am familiar with, and Rob went the extra mile to explain the process and what to expect. He clearly knows what he's doing, and he does a great job at what he does. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this business, or his services, and would definitely reach out to them again if needed.
